What's New in 26.7.31.1

Everything since 26.7.22.2.

Games

  1. Games with a real macOS version now run natively. Bourbon detects a 64-bit Mac build and runs it directly instead of translating through Wine — no launch options, no setup. Subnautica, Stardew Valley and Tangle Tower all switched over. Stardew in particular went from "unsupported" to working, because its Windows build never ran on Wine but its Mac build runs fine. 32-bit Mac builds are correctly ignored, since macOS can't run them at all.
  2. Games install without Steam's install dialog getting in the way, and Bourbon waits for the install to finish before trying to launch.
  3. Smart Play can pin an exact Wine build and sync mode per game. Legends of IdleOn needs Wine 11.10 and msync specifically; that now ships in its recipe instead of being something you'd have to discover.
  4. Fresh profiles for six more Steam titles, each screenshot-verified here rather than taken from reports.
  5. Unreal games that ask for DX12 now use D3D11 + DXVK, which actually works on Apple Silicon.
  6. Window-mode fix for games that drew a phantom second title bar — a dark band under the real one, the bottom of the picture cut off, and the mouse off by about a centimetre. Ye Guild Clerk! is fixed; Smart Play can now ship the right window mode per game.
  7. Detective Grimoire routes to CrossOver-source Wine, which is the only stack its Adobe AIR runtime survives.

Reliability

  1. "Stop All" now actually stops native Mac games. Before, it reported success while the game kept running in the background.
  2. Steam's cloud-save prompt no longer stalls a launch silently. Bourbon answers it automatically on the Wine side; on native Steam it can't click for you, so it tells you exactly what to click — and if macOS Steam is signed out, it says so, because that's what makes the prompt come back every single launch.
  3. A game pinned to a non-default bottle now says so at launch, and names how to go back. A leftover pin from an old experiment used to look like the app was broken.
  4. A launch only counts as working once its window sticks around — a title that flashes up and dies is no longer recorded as a success. A game that's already running is no longer recorded as a failure.
  5. A stale Wine process no longer reads as a corrupted prefix, so Bourbon stops offering to repair something that isn't broken.
  6. Your saves reach the shared save vault from every bottle, not just the default one.

New

  1. Bottle Shelf, rebuilt — real 3D bottles you can spin, wrapped labels, whisky-style names, and a curated set instead of a wall of options.
  2. Emulators — install console emulators (including Switch: Astris and Ryubing) as their own bottles, with a ROM library.
  3. Browser Games — 99 instant-play titles in Bourbon's own browser.
  4. Stores page — one grid, real store logos, Heroic-backed stores surfaced instead of hidden, and store sign-in that works.
  5. Experimental page — OS Experience split into its three guests, plus Bourbon Android on the official Play Store image and macOS guests on Apple's own virtualization. Experiments stay contained and no longer leak into the rest of the app.
  6. OS Experience — Windows 11 installs unattended, and Bourbon Linux (SteamOS) reaches Game Mode.

Faster

  1. Launches and setup are quicker — prefix settings written in one pass instead of several, an already-prepared Steam session reused instead of restarted, verified downloads reused, and Bourbon stops watching a launch as soon as the outcome is known.
